Brand new song "On This Celtic Morning" - June 2010
I have often effused about my love affair with the ancient game of Golf. It’s a sport I have played as best I could since I was ten years old, and if you ‘get it’ then you know how all consuming it is and if you don’t thats fine. With the ‘The Ryder Cup’ coming to Wales for the first time at the end of September, I found myself fumbling with a few lyrical ideas that eventually became a song. I looked on-line for other Ryder Cup music but only found some very jingoistic efforts directed at the USA team, which to be honest, didn't do them any artistic favor. ‘On This Celtic Morning’ tries to embrace the unique spirit of this beloved game and is hopefully an acknowledgment of the past as well as the amazing skills of todays fairway magicians. I don’t know if it will be of any use to anyone in particular but it felt right to put it out there amidst the excitement that is building by the M4 intersection with Newport.

On this Celtic morning
On this Celtic morning
Under Manor skies
A valleys eyes are smiling
And the river asking why?
There is a tiger on the land
To meet the dragon always there
And men will play this great game again
In spirit true and fair
Grass that’s drawn from water
Irons wrought of sand
The beauty in the walking
The shaking of your hand
On this Celtic morning
Under Manor skies
Flags of nations flying
And hope is running high
Pure strikes from the middle
And never from the toe
There may be some beautiful healing
Still the river wants to know
Why there’s a tiger on the land
To meet the dragon always there
Tell her history lives beyond us
And used to be the golden bear
She’s the grace to lose with honor
To win with empathy
It’s the passion of the matador
As a boy with his 3 iron by the sea
And the gods who play before us
Somehow carry all our names
As tall as any mountain
But never bigger than the game
On this Celtic morning
Under Manor skies
Flags of nations flying
And hope is running high
On this Celtic morning
Under Manor skies
Rhythm time and motion
Runs deep and testifies
And welcomes brothers to the land
To meet the dragons always there
And men will play this great game again
In spirit true and fair
On this Celtic morning
Under Manor skies
On this Celtic morning
Under Samuel Ryder skies.

Brand now song "Five Sisters" - January 2009
Read Martyn`s diary entry of 31st December 2008 for the inspiration behind this moving and compelling song of a father in Gaza who lost five precious daughters when an Israeli rocket, aimed at a building next door, destroyed their home.
Below are two versions of the song, the first a full version and the second a stripped back acoustic version.

Five Sisters
This is not the place for vengeance
Not a place for battle cries
This is no rally it’s a funeral
For five sisters lives
Every day I watched them growing
In the night I watched them breathe
But it only takes a second
Five sisters gone
We walk we breathe we are not animals
Though you treat us like we are
I never fired a rocket sir at anyone
n>But you may have pushed too far
The propaganda of the leaders
Making speeches heads held high
I want them standing by this graveside
Where five sisters lie
Every day…
Take away a mans water
Build upon his land
Raise a mighty wall around him
What is it you don’t understand?
Make his children walk in squalor
With only night stars for a view
Then the rage within that helplessness
One day comes back at you
But this is not the place for vengeance
Not a place for battle cries

One day I’ll buy a rocket
And I will aim it at the sky
Celebrate in the light of a thousand colours
I pray, peace and justice in our time
For five sisters
